This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever tried to do a read aloud or shared reading without a big book? It's hard to do especially with my first graders.
My first graders love to read and listen to stories.
I teach in East Harlem and my students come from low income families. These kids have rough lives and heartbreaking stories. The one thing they all have in common is that they love school. My first graders love to be in school learning and having fun. The school budget is very limited and even the basic materials are hard to get.
My Project
My students will benefit from getting a document camera for our classroom because we have a small classroom library. One thing my classroom does not have is big books. A document camera can turn any book into a big book. Read alouds and shared reading are integral parts of first grade therefore it's important for them to be able to see the books and words. A document camera will make that possible and assist me in helping my students be better readers.
This document camera will be a great tool to have in my classroom.
My students will be able to enjoy listening and reading any book in our class. The students I have that benefit from visuals will also love having this document camera. I will also be able to share my students work with the class by showing it on the document camera. Please help us get a document camera!
