Children learn best when they have a model of what to do. I have used document cameras with great success to show students how to annotate text, revise each other's essays and more. Currently, I have to share a camera with seven other teachers, and would love to have a dedicated one in my room.
Junior high, in my mind, is the perfect age group.
Students are excited to learn and are beginning to be more aware of the world around them. They are able to delve deeper into literature and really think about the ideas and problems posed by books. My students in particular are really eager learners! Whether it's the student who never raises a hand but writes beautifully and passionately or the one who thanks me for my teaching every day at the end of class, each and every one brings a unique sparkle to the classroom.
My Project
We have already used a document camera to practice close reading and annotation of texts, as well as demonstrating essay revision. In addition, I would love to use it to work on graphic organizers as a whole class, show exceptional student work, and even find ways for the students to use it in order to create a more student-centered classroom.
My students come to me well-prepared from their sixth and seventh grade teachers.
They are exceptionally intelligent and hungry for new knowledge. This document camera will be one more tool in my belt in my quest to take them to the next level in their educational journey.
