My Students
The Covid-19 global pandemic took all of us by surprise, and my kindergartners were asked to tolerate an extremely fast transition with no warning or instruction. Immediately, teachers at my school started putting together some semblance of a routine for the kids with the hope that their efforts would lessen the trauma of the transition. Teachers were attempting to give the kids a sense of normalcy and consistency during a very turbulent period of time. However, teachers were also shut out of the school and unable to carefully choose materials and resources they would need to teach academics remotely for months on end.
My students are learning as I am learning as I continue to teach online under these challenging circumstances.
Daily, I find I lack equipment that would make remote teaching more successful for me and my students.
My Project
I am struggling to find ways to properly demonstrate new curriculum to the kindergartners in my class. Teaching remotely has proven challenging without the tech resources needed to effectively teach five-year-olds.
Kindergartners need a lot of visuals and teaching through example in order for them to absorb and retain the information they are learning.
Without the ability to live teach the lessons with ease, our sessions run into longer periods of time, and their attention span is limited to much less.
I hope to use the Epson document camera to keep our lessons engaging and interesting enough for them to be involved and interactive with me as I attempt to teach them new concepts they will need to know before first grade.
