Help me give my students books that include stories that not only feature diverse characters but actively teach about acceptance, inclusion, and understanding, like the multicultural chapter/picture books and the I See Me book collections.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom encompasses a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds, each student having a different but pretty limited life experiences.
My students are curious beings, waiting to dive deeper into their interests and passions.
However, many of them are lacking the adequate resources to explore the world outside of their own local neighborhoods. About 75% of the students in my school are economically disadvantaged which means that many of them come from a household with very limited income, and therefore very limited resources, opportunities, and viewpoints. Many of them do not have the experiences needed in order to draw upon and apply to their learning, but they do have the desire.
My Project
I have a diverse group of students with varying levels of experiences and viewpoints. The age that I teach, upper elementary, is a time of growth and change not only physically but mentally and emotionally as well.
My classroom encompasses a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds, each student having different but pretty limited life experiences and exposure to other cultures outside of the four walls of our school.
They are trying to not only learn about themselves and their likes and dislikes, but also how they can fit in.
As a teacher it is my responsibility to engender an atmosphere of acceptance and inclusion in my room, fostering a community of learners who are supportive and kind to those around them and who are willing to go on a learning journey that includes their peers. In order to do that, they must first try to understand those around them. I want to open their eyes and hearts to other cultures and educate them on traditions, customs, and contributions of all people from all backgrounds. I want to be able to help them on their journey of empathy and understanding, helping them to develop and fine tune their interpersonal skills.
The books and collections I have included will help me guide them on this journey. Through words and pictures, my students will be able to experience history, they will be able to connect to people and societies to which they might not otherwise have been exposed. The books will allow me to teach my students about people of diverse backgrounds, how they have made a difference to our society, and hopefully inspire my kids to reach higher, farther, to not let obstacles stop them with things they are passionate about...and then hopefully bring others along with them for the ride.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
