Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Through gender, ethnicity, and specific learning needs, our students represent the diversity reflected in society that is underrepresented in literature. A good number of students at our STEM academy are in school for close to 10 hours a day, where they are guaranteed breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We challenge our students to soar above their challenges and set high expectations of achievement for all learners. We teach that being bilingual is a life skill to be proud of, and we build confidence in their abilities. We teach that special needs are an asset, not a deficiency. Through STEM education, teachers at our school level the playing field for all students by developing skills and confidence needed to enter the 21st century workforce.

At our school, teachers develop student skills through STEM and inclusive practices that celebrate diversity.

We teach problem solving through hands-on opportunities. By continuing to build a print-rich classroom environment that promotes diversity in high interest STEM topics, students will see themselves as future leaders in these areas.

My Project

These selected books to add to our classroom library will support students in understanding that there are diverse personalities and areas of interest within STEM fields. When students read about people just like them that grew up to become successful leaders, they will be inspired to become like them.

By adding to my classroom library books on a wide range of STEM topics, students will more fully understand what it takes for them to become productive members of society.

When students read about individuals that reflect who they are, they will more fully understand that they too have what it takes to be successful. Your donation will ensure that there are a wide range of inclusive, diverse topics with a STEM focus, with an even wider range of texts exploring individuals in STEM fields, reflecting for students where individuals came from and how they rose above internal and external challenges in order to gain confidence in their own ability to change the world.
