This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a Special Education teacher, I am lucky to service a variety of diverse learners. My students' disabilities range from Learning, Social/Emotional, Health Impairments (ADD/ADHD), Autism, and many more. My students work hard and are eager to explore, discover and learn.
All of my students read significantly below grade level; however, they have the same social interests as their same aged peers.
This Donors Choose project is to provide my students with a classroom library filled with high interest/low level books. High interest/low reading level books can motivate struggling readers by providing books on topics that their peers are reading, but targeted toward their reading level. High/low books can help build reading fluency, vocabulary, background knowledge and interest in reading.
The books I have chosen are all geared towards a very diverse classroom library to ensure that each student is represented within our classroom. It also creates a welcoming space where students feel safe to take risk and build reading confidence!
