Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students at my school come from high poverty areas where even leaving the building is dangerous, no matter what time of day. The school is not too far away, but it is at least a train ride away and provides some distance from their home lives.
These students risk their own safety and come to school instead of staying home, locked behind their doors, because they want better lives.
It is my mission to arm them with the skills they need to attain and lead those better lives.
My Project
Our students are all unique. As such, they need a diverse reading library to help support their social and emotional learning. Especially now, this year, they need to be able to see themselves reflected in what they are reading.
These books will allow our students to see themselves reflected in what they are reading, and this is so important for teenagers.
We will be able to read the texts together, write our own experiences based on the text, and share them with others through discussion during our zoom meetings and even afterwards through messages.
