Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are bright and creative young city kids. They have had art in their school for three years now, and they have displayed so much talent and promise in their newly acquired skills. No matter what life hands them, my students still put their best effort forth. All students, no matter what their background or where they live, deserve an equitable chance at education and art education!

It breaks my heart that some of my students enter the classroom at a disadvantage, to no fault of their own.

The majority of my students come from low socioeconomic status households, and qualify for free lunch at school. Due to multiple issues within my school district, I am not provided a budget for my classroom.

These kids are bright, creative, and excited to learn more in the arts. No matter what struggles they face at home, they still wake up and come to school everyday! They are stronger than they know, and deserve so much more than they are handed. Empowering students through art is so important in our community.

My Project

Currently at my school, we have no decent space to show off and display students' sculptures and 3-D work. If I try to hang the art, the weight of it causes it to fall, and not to mention students like to touch the work, sometimes causing it to fall. We need a safe place to exhibit their precious clay, paper mache, and mixed media art designs.

When my students see their art on display, they smile from ear to ear, and I want them to feel that pride in the sculpture work they create.

I want to be able to properly display their 3-dimensional work, so that not only they can see it, but also the staff and the community that comes into our building. Having 2 new display cases will not only help instill pride and joy in the students, but it will also help to beautify our halls, and gives students a chance to see what other kids are doing in their art class.
