Help me give my students the materials needed to explore medical careers through hands-on activities. These lab materials will give us the equipment needed to do more real science in our Medical Detectives STEM class.
Our school is a Title I, minority-majority school that is located in south Oklahoma City. With seventh and eighth grades, our school serves a very diverse group of about 700 eager learners.
With the addition of a Medical Detectives STEM class, we need some lab materials that can provide more hands-on experiences.
Through the class, students play the role of real-life medical detectives as they collect and analyze medical data to diagnose disease. They solve medical mysteries through hands-on projects and labs, measure and interpret vital signs, examine nervous system structure and function, and investigate disease outbreaks.
These materials will give us what we need to complete a set of 'diagnostic lab tests' and a dissection lab through multiple sections of students. The goggle cabinet will allow us to quickly sanitize the goggles needed for the next group of students. Most of the materials will be used during the next semester the class is taught and many items for years to come.
It is an amazing opportunity for them to get to apply what they have been learning in a fun and real way. The skills learned through hands-on activities will help students gain more knowledge and confidence in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) in order to prepare them for the careers of the future.
