My Students
My students are 5th graders with a passion for learning. Unfortunately, they have the odds stacked against them. My kids are growing up in abject poverty in an extremely violent neighborhood. Our school and my students are incredibly resource deficient. 100% of the students at my school receive free or reduced priced lunch. Most of them are performing significantly below grade level. They are statistically some of the absolute "lowest" performing students in the state of Florida. They have to deal with hardship after hardship inside and outside of school and yet, they are some of the most resilient and passionate kids you will ever meet.
These kids have a particularly special place in my heart because I've taught them before.
I am determined to make our time together more meaningful than ever and I refuse to let our lack of access to resources or historically low academic achievement hold us back. We can make huge strides this year, but I'm going to need the help of a village!
My Project
My students have several elaborate projects coming up, including their Capstone IB project for their elementary graduation! Last year, my students made beautiful IB projects with the Cricut and I want to give my students this year the same opportunity. We just need some supplies to get us going!
I want to see my kids have the same look of satisfaction and pride when they complete their final elementary projects that they've been researching all year!
We will use the Cricut tools to enhance our project boards. We will use the scissors for the same purpose. The paper will go a long way in ensuring that we can make copies and print when we are researching our topics!
