This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach second grade in a Title I school. My students are at or below poverty level living in a suburb of Los Angeles, California. All of my students qualify for a free breakfast and lunch. My class consists of 12 amazing girls and 10 "ready to go" boys. They enjoy being challenged academically and physically everyday. They are in the Limited English Proficiency program levels 1 and 2. My students are creative, inquisitive, hard working, and eager to learn about the world around them, as well as themselves. In the classroom my students work in a whole group, independently as well as in teams. They encourage each other to grow and explore their wonderful world of learning. My school is in a large district in Los Angeles.
In my classroom, my students practice computational thinking and develop 21st-century skills with Dash and Dot robots.
My lesson plans are designed to meet Common Core State Standards, and are aligned to computer science.
My Project
My 22 second graders and I are so blessed to be surrounded by Dash and Dot robots that were donated to our classroom. Because of that, I looked for a creative storage solution to keep our Dashes and Dot safe, but at the same time, it had to be a storage and mobile system, that allows my students to have strait access to these STEM learning tools and resources.
The storage cart and USB ports will keep Dash and Dot robots safe, charged, and to be ready to be programed the next day.
Coding and programing sparks creativity and encourages my students to use their imagination while helping them develop problem-solving skills.
