Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Each child in my incoming Horizon kindergarten classroom will bring their own spark, curiosity, and unique way of engaging with the world. As a program designed to support students with autism, we focus on creating an environment where they can thrive. It is my greatest joy to create a space where my students feel safe, celebrated, and excited to learn. This will be my third year teaching in a Horizon classroom, and I’ve seen firsthand how much the environment matters, how a cozy, well-organized, sensory-friendly space can transform a child’s experience in school.
Our goal for this project is to be able to create a soothing space for autistic young minds to thrive.
We would like to create a calming corner with a soft rug where students can take breaks, self-regulate, or simply enjoy a quiet moment. The sensory tools and bins included in this project will support emotional regulation and provide hands-on ways for students to stay engaged and comfortable throughout the day. Other items in this project will help me organize materials and create visually clear spaces that make navigating the classroom easier and more predictable for my learners.
These resources will help me build a classroom that feels like a second home, where students feel understood, supported, and proud of who they are. Thank you for helping me create a classroom that truly meets their needs and makes their school experience a positive one!
