My Students

A cold laminated floor is the last place you would want to be at to get into a book. Let's banish this place with a colorful rug.

My students are awesome kids who come from many different cultures.

Many are new to this country but are eager to learn our language and culture. More than half of my class qualifies for and receives free lunch. They come into my classroom every morning with a smile on their face and an eagerness to learn. We are a public school facing budget constraints which makes it difficult to reach all of our awesome students.

My Project

A nice, bright, and comfortable place to settle into a book and not put it down until it is time to go home is the place we will be giving these wonderful kids. The enjoyment of reading and opening their young eyes to the world is a benefit they will appreciate many years later.

This project is very important to me because studies have shown again and again the importance of reading and developing academic vocabulary.

If I can get students to enjoy reading, they will in turn increase their vocabulary and make connections they never knew existed before.
