This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In my role, I have the privilege of supporting a diverse group of students from various programs across our school. Many of these students come to me facing a wide range of emotions—from frustration and anxiety to overstimulation—that can make it difficult for them to focus and engage in their learning. Without a dedicated space to de-escalate, these students often struggle to regain their composure and get back on track.

My goal is to create a peaceful and welcoming "calm down corner" right in my office.

This space will be a safe haven where students can take a brief break to practice self-regulation skills. I'm requesting a soft rug, a few comfy chairs, and some plush pillows to create a cozy, non-threatening environment.

These items will transform an unused corner into a much-needed retreat. The soft texture of the rug and the comfort of the chairs and pillows will provide a sense of security and help ground students who are feeling overwhelmed. It's not just about comfort; it's about giving them a physical space to separate from their emotional state, take a few deep breaths, and practice the coping strategies we work on together. A small investment in this space will make a huge impact, empowering my students to manage their emotions and return to their day feeling ready to learn and thrive.
