Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My first graders come to school full of curiosity and excitement, but many also face big feelings that can make learning challenging. School is a new world for them — loud noises, new routines, and social expectations can sometimes feel overwhelming.
With this Calm Corner, my students will have a safe and welcoming place to pause, regulate their emotions, and practice self-control.
These tools (bins, posters, stress balls, pillows, timers and sensory toy) will help students understand that it’s okay to feel upset or frustrated, and give them strategies to calm down and refocus.
When students are able to manage their feelings and take intentional breaks, they return to the classroom ready to engage, learn, and participate with confidence. Creating this space teaches them important lifelong skills like self-awareness and emotional resilience, which are as vital as academic skills in first grade.
This project will give my students the support they need to grow both emotionally and academically, helping them build a strong foundation for success in school and beyond.
