A Cozy Book Nook

Help me give my students a bookshelf, futon for our reading nook, stools for our small group table, and vinyl to use with our silhouette to create labels, and do project boards.

My Students

Our third grade class is made up of an amazing group of students including ESL, gifted, special needs, and dyslexic children. Our school is in a high poverty school district. Funds are often not available for extra materials needed in the classroom.

Many of our students are at-risk and receive free or reduced price lunches.

Often they come to school without the supplies needed for class. In spite of these hardships, they are eager to learn and absorb information like sponges.

Their futures are bright, and they work hard to learn the things they need to know in order to be successful. These students love coming to school and being with their peers. Every day they come into class ready to learn something new and excited!

My Project

Third graders are great at creating projects and doing project boards to go with their project based learning activities. Vinyl to use with our Silhouette Cameo will be used to cut out shapes and letters to use on these projects. We plan to do lemonade stand projects, advertising book projects and many others where they use cutouts and lettering to create a professional looking board. The vinyl will be used in these projects.

Reading is the area our students need the most support, so providing them with a cozy place to practice their reading is important.

We do stations in our classroom and my students need a cozy place to sit and read to self during this time. I am trying to get my students excited about reading and books to encourage a love for literature. They will love having a comfy place to sit and read as well as a great display of books to choose from.

The chairs we have will not fit under our table comfortably. These stools will be a great place for students to sit at our small group table while working on reading and math skills with the teacher.
