Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a high poverty neighborhood with a very diverse range of home structures: nuclear, single parent, foster, and migrant, to name a few.

My students love to be at school and enjoy learning, especially when the activities are hands-on.

Many of my students are English language learners who attend a public school in the South Central Los Angeles area. They are always excited to experience any kind of technology that I'm able to bring to my class.

My Project

My classes consist of 27 - 30 brilliant, hardworking and inspiring students who constantly fight to make a difference in the STEM field, a once "unattainable" world that is slowly but surely opening up to a more diverse demographic.

This upcoming school year is going to be one for the books.

In spite of the unknown, I am preparing my classroom for blended learning and accumulating resources that will best support my fifth graders in this uncharted territory. When we first transitioned to distance learning, I taught my classes from my old laptop, which is over five years old, is not compatible with many of the tools we were trained to use. I think my students deserve the best teaching from me. I will be able to:

⭐ Host live/synchronous lessons, small group feedback/tutoring sessions, and Advisory SEL circles.

⭐ Screen record lessons and discussions directly from the desktop to be reviewed by students later.

⭐ Turn my desktop into a whiteboard with DoodleDesk.

⭐ Have reliable access to Zoom's features that encourage discussion and collaboration such as breakout rooms, polls, and annotations.

⭐ Use my document camera to model annotating texts in real-time, support my diverse learners with graphic organizers that help them analyze key unit concepts, and plan out the writing and revision process that occurs before typing.
