My students need an updated/dependable laptop in the classroom to present their unit projects, view teacher/student power points and view documentaries.
My students are passionate about life, learning and literacy. They enjoy classroom discussions, viewing and answering questions about documentaries and learning outside the box. There is a mutual understanding that everyone deserves respect and to be treated fairly.
The students come from every neighborhood of the city.
There are a wide variety of socio-economic and educational backgrounds. The neighborhood is being gentrified with the help of the University of Chicago but has found ways to retain its local flavor.
The school is one of the top neighborhood schools in the city and has helped many students pay for their college tuition by securing large scholarships, in some cases thru graduate school. The school has made tremendous gains in recent years and is sought out by many students entering high school.
My Project
The computer being requested will be a major update from the 2008-2009 laptop that I currently use in class.
The students are constantly having to deal with technical difficulties generated by problems that arise from the old computers, lack of updated technological capabilities and lack of compatibility to the latest software.
The students need an up to date computer in the classroom so they can present their amazing projects, informative videos and/or power points to the class without having ongoing technical difficulties.
One example of a recent problem was the adapter cord not working. The old computer uses a cord that is no longer available at Apple, thus I am forced to purchase generic models, which only last a few months.
This request should have happened years ago and hopefully will be successful, so that my students can have access to updated technology that other schools with more money and resources already have and benefit from.
