Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At our school, we believe that students should grow not only as readers but also as kind, caring people.

For our upcoming Literacy Night, we want to focus on teaching compassion, helping students understand the feelings of others and encouraging them to take kind action.

We are requesting a Fujifilm Instax Mini 12 Instant Camera, Primary Composition Notebooks, Bookmarks, Cartoon Fun Pens, Motivational Quote Silicone Bracelets, and Motivational Stickers to help create an inspiring event.

During the event, students and families will read stories about empathy and kindness. Students will use the notebooks and pens to write or draw from the point of view of characters in the stories or share a personal moment when they showed compassion. The instant camera will help capture moments of connection, which we’ll display on a “Wall of Compassion” to show the power of caring for others. Students will also take part in a “Compassion Challenge” by writing down ideas for kind actions they can take in their daily lives. The bracelets, bookmarks, and stickers will remind them to keep choosing kindness even after the event ends.

We’ll measure success by asking students to respond to simple reflection questions like, “What did this story teach you about someone else’s feelings?” and “How did you show compassion tonight?” Their answers, along with feedback from families, will help us see how much they’ve grown in understanding what compassion means. With your support, Literacy Night can become a powerful moment where students learn to care deeply for others while growing as thoughtful readers and people.
