My students need a comfortable place to focus during their Listen to Reading station and headphones so that there are no distractions to students in other areas of the classroom.

My Students
My students are living and learning in rural Western Alaska. It is a 100% Native Alaskan student population. They are inquisitive, enthusiastic, and have a yearning to learn. However, due to our geographic location, it can be difficult to access supplies and materials. Also, our school attempts provide all materials for learning, so as to not be a burden on our families. Of course, our funds can never cover all that students need.
Most teachers will tell you that their students teach them each day, I can confidently say that my students truly give me more than I can hope to give them.
I am always learning. In a given day I might be learning new words in my adopted village's language, lessons that were given to my students from the elders, ways of living a subsistence lifestyle, or hacks for living when electricity, sewage, cell towers, and internet is down, simultaneously.
My Project
We know that for readers, fluency enhances comprehension. In English Language Learners (ELLs), this is especially important since they are assimilating a new language as well as a new skill - reading. Fluency is learned through repetition and also modeling.
For my students I want to create an area of our classroom that they can Listen to Reading and have that fluency modeled for them.
I have recorded myself reading various stories from our curriculum and have compiled other recorded readings from various sources.
I am now looking to create a welcoming space for the Listen to Reading area. The pillows that I've chosen will allow students to be comfortable as they listen and participate in discussions about the readings. The headphones will ensure that students in other parts of the classroom will be undisturbed.
