The students that come into my classroom are scared, curious, eager, as well as excited to see what is about to happen in here. When they realize this is a place of making new friends, learning how to read, and that it involves Play-Doh, they start to settle in.
My students are from poverty stricken neighborhoods and my goal is to give them all the love they can handle.
Most of my students may already know each other because of the small communities in which they come from. Some of them are brand new to the country. Few of them walk in with the proper supplies needed to get them through the school year. And nearly all of them receive free or reduced lunches. My goal is to make sure that my students know they are loved, cared for, and that they can do whatever they set their minds to. We learn, but we also have fun. We dance, sing, play, and most of all learn how to love, be kind, and be you.
My Project
In order for the students to come together as a whole group, we do most of our learning on the carpet. This allows us to have partner to partner talks to discuss ideas, watch engaging videos to enhance the concept, and to listen intently as a whole group during read aloud time. We also gather on the carpet to dance and sing, and to tell stories and get to know one another. My students love to share out about their baby sister or a visit from grandpa. And the carpet is a comfortable place for all of us to do that!
My students need a place to gather and do what they love most, learn.
I am a second year teacher at a Title I school and last year I borrowed a rug from a teacher friend. This coming year I have moved into a bigger room with half the floor being tile. We need our gathering place to be comfortable and soft, not hard and cold. Through your helpful donations my students will have a pleasant place to come together to learn and love.
