Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are our schools youngest learners. We are a 3K class of 15 inner city students. We are in a high immigrant area with a high poverty rate. They are 3 years old, entering school for the first time. Some can speak English, some are just learning the language...but they all enter a classroom where they are loved. We teach them what school is, how to get along with other, take turns, share and a love of learning.
I want to create a cozy corner in our classroom.
A quiet space where a child can read a book, sit with a friend or cuddle a stuffed animal if they choose to. A place to unwind, or to sit and relax. Sometimes a child needs a place to be by themselves...they might be over stimulated, tired, or just miss their mommy.
My Project
Three year old are full of emotions! A cozy corner helps them to learn how to calm down when they are upset. It's a quiet place to think and work through some of those feelings!
A cozy corner is also the place where our class library is!
Children can sit by themselves and read a book, or can ask a teacher to read to them. A cozy corner encourages early literacy skills for our students! Children learn to look at pictures in books, left to right directionality and how to turn the pages.
