This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I want to build a safe and quiet space in my classroom for my students to be able to read, de-stress, and socialize. Alternative seating options, and a more secluded area for working and self regulation, has made such a difference in our classroom environment, even with just the little amount I have been able to provide myself. Having these more cozy and relaxed areas allows for more fun and casual interactions between students, helping them to learn crucial social skills within a safe classroom environment, and provides a designated location for learning how to self regulate no matter the situation at hand.
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them, this allows for a more enjoyable and engaged classroom experience all around.
I am hoping to receive these floor cushions and bean bag to add to the one bean bag chair we already have, thus creating a comfortable nook in the classroom. The yoga balls have been so helpful with self regulating and individual work. Since adding them, I have noticed an immense change in positive choices and behavior, as well as engagement levels with class and self directed activities! They allow body movement without being distracting to the rest of the classroom environment. We would love to add a few more to our room for this very reason.
