My Project
My class is a lively bunch of learners. Every week we visit the library and students can check out books that we put into our reading center. They choose books that follow their interests and they share and talk about the books with their friends. These books are added to the bookshelves with classroom books- fiction books, non-fiction books and even books that our class has written. This month we are learning about insects, so there are butterflies, ladybugs, crickets, grasshoppers and even some pests like cockroaches and silverfish. Almost all of my students are in the pre-literacy stage of looking at pictures and remembering the words as they were read. With new books, they help to create the story from reading the pictures.
Right now my reading center has a seating area that faces opposite directions and does not create the collaborative space they need.
For all of my readers I want to create a warm and welcoming reading center. What better to invite readers into a book than small couch and chair? I can create a warm and inviting area for them, allowing them to face each other, share and enjoy learning.
