My Students
Our classroom library needs help! With a classroom of more than 30 students, our library can quickly become crowded and noisy. We need seating that is portable and comfortable.
My students attend a neighborhood school in the inner city.
They are enthusiastic and determined learners in spite their academic challenges. When they find a book that they can read by themselves they want the time and space to enjoy their accomplishment.
My Project
This project will provide comfortable and cozy reading pillows. My students have a knack for finding quiet places on the floor or under their desk but after a few minutes these places become uncomfortable. Portable seating will transform these places into cheerful and relaxing reading areas. Then the students will be able to sustain their daily 30 minute independent reading time and fully enjoy their selections. I will be better able to suggest more challenging books when I can approach them individually. I can observe and support their reading more effectively in this more informal setting. My second graders of all levels will build their confidence as they develop their reading skills in a small more private setting.

The reading pillows will allow my students to create quiet spaces to develop and share their reading skills and continue the journey to becoming lifelong learners.
