A Comfortable Montessori Peace Room

My Students

Students at my school come together from many different backgrounds and abilities to create a beautiful community that we call home. We have both self-contained Montessori classes and self-contained gifted classrooms, as well as our mainstream classrooms, so we are able to meet a large variety of learning styles and student needs.

My students are curious about how the world works, and I try to foster that curiosity with project-based curriculum, and hands-on learning experiences.

Our school is a place where we can come together and build while exploring concepts in science, the arts, engineering, and more.

My Project

We are working to give a former office room a complete overhaul, and reinvent the moderate sized space as a cozy and welcoming Peace Room. Our Peace Room will serve all of our Montessori students from toddler age through grade 3, as well as teachers, staff, and parents who choose to utilize the space.

Our vision is to promote peace through the teaching and promotion of diversity and inclusion, and the continued development of our peace curriculum.

Ultimately, we see the Peace Room as an expanded peace corner, that will help unite our entire community, and even facilitate peaceful intentions beyond our four walls as we learn about peace as a world-uniting concept. We intend to bring this vision to life by designing a space where our community members feel comfortable.

There will be a peace library, which will include books on social justice, world peace, and conflict resolution. Rounding out the room will be items and activities designed to promote a peaceful atmosphere, such as friendship building activities, sensory and calming tools, along with soft lighting, peace related artwork, and comfortable and flexible seating arrangements to accommodate all of our community members.
