Thank you to taking the time to view my project request for the Cuddle Box. Here, at my school, we are limited on both space and supplies to help our students who need extra support regulating. When my young friends are dysregulated, they are not in an optimal space for learning. The Cuddle Box was developed by an occupational therapist to provide students the opportunity to bounce, stretch, snuggle, sit or hide surrounded by a pool of stretchy, responsive lycra providing the sensory input they are seeking. The gentle resistant lycra can be used to push and pull, building strength, coordination and balance in this unique setting. Most importantly, it provides the calming sensory input these children are seeking.
The portability and compactness of the box makes it a great tool to travel across the school to various classrooms for children who may need the opportunity for regulation; allowing a wide span of children to have the opportunity to benefit from the box.
Ensuring students regulated are comfortable is an essential component in giving them the opportunity to learn. I have noticed amazing differences in my students that are given options for calming and regulating spaces and activities. They are often able to calm and participate in classroom learning, are more engaged, and are able to complete more work.
As we do not have a dedicated sensory room or space in my school, the Cuddle Box would be the ideal object to travel to various classrooms to provide students the sensory input they are craving. I am hopeful to be able to implement a program and provide education to educators on how to help their children succeed by using the Cuddle Box.
