My students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 50% of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in Queens. Students speak a multitude of languages including English, Spanish, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Arabic.
My Project
I want to help my kindergarten students see themselves in their art work. Using our regular crayon colors will not support the diversity that exists in our classroom.
The multicultural colored pencils, crayons, and construction papers will be used to create a wide variety of art projects throughout the school year.
In addition, the multicultural markers, crayons, and construction papers will allow my students to create art pieces where they can represent themselves.
My students will be excited and motivated to express their identities when they see themselves represented in these basic art tools.
With your help and support, my students will take pride in their identity.
