I teach first grade. The age of the students range from 6-7 years old. They come into school each day ready to try new things and make new choices to grow both personally and academically....so that one day the can take on the world. All of them are unique individuals with many talents!
My job is to give them the tools they need to be successful in and out of the classroom.
Everything we do, they give it their all!
My Project
A colorful classroom rug would be a great addition to our class. The rug is where we start each day together. We do morning meeting and whole group instruction time on the rug together. Students also use the rug to read books to each other during center time.
In first grade, we learn all about body awareness and the rug would allow each student to have their own space.
The rug would benefit my students who may have a special need; to learn social cues, to learn not to be in someones "bubble", etc.
Our current rug has a hole and we have used painters tape to mark "spots" for each student to have their own space.
The rug is our gathering place at the start and end of our day. It is the heart of our classroom where we are all together.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
