Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many of my students come from single-parent households and low-income families. 100% of our school receives free breakfast and lunch. Regardless of the stability many of my students lack in their home lives, they still remain positive about the world and find it full of wonder. Our school lacks a real cafeteria, auditorium, gym or science/computer lab. Due to Covid protocols, students do not leave their desk for a majority of the day. This makes our classroom the place our children spend a large majority of their time. Students are unable to share supplies this year and must all come prepared with their own which is just not possible for some. Due to this, it is very important that I try to make it as inviting and functional as possible in order to make it useful is a variety of ways.
My Project
A large interactive whiteboard would be an amazing contribution to our classroom that will enable us to create a constantly updated interactive word wall for our reference during writing activities. It will also help us to show off new words we have learned in reading. Speaking of reading, I am constantly looking for ways to grow my student love of it. Finger flashlights will enable us to have reading in the dark parties, and a color printer will allow us to create colorful beginning sound sorts, etc. It would be so exciting to introduce these new items to our classroom!
