Help me give my students books with characters that are representative of themselves. It is important for books to be mirrors for students, seeing themselves in the characters.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are a diverse group of learners from the South Bronx. They come to school eager to learn and engage with teachers and peers. The collection of books in my project will provide culturally responsive and student centered resources. These books represent the diversity in my classroom.
Each student deserves to pick up a book that is a MIRROR, to see characters that represent themselves in a story.
These books are meaningful and relevant to my students and will engage them to imagine their place in the world. As my students connect to the characters they will increase engagement and reading stamina which will lead to academic achievement.
