My Students
I teach at a Title I school located in a low socioeconomic neighborhood. A majority of my students come from low socioeconomic households. All students at my school qualify for free breakfast and lunch. A large population of the students walk to school from the nearby public housing apartments.
All students deserve to learn in a clean and safe environment regardless of their socioeconomic status or background.

My Project
Children catch on an average of about seven to eight colds per year. Classrooms are places where germs can be shared constantly. Not only are cold germs spread, but germs that can cause the flu and conjunctivitis (pink eye) can also be spread. Studies show that increased handwashing, the use of sanitizer, covering coughs, and using Lysol disinfectant spray and wipes can significantly decrease the spread of these germs.
It is important to provide a clean, sanitized, and safe environment where students can perform at their fullest academic potential.
When students are out of school due to illnesses, they miss pertinent instruction. To decrease the absentee rate of students, the Lysol wipes will be used daily to wipe hard surfaces students are exposed to, such as desks, computer keyboards and computer mice, the light switch, door knobs, and sink faucets. The Lysol spray will be used to disinfect the classroom air, dry erase markers, and supplies students may share. Students will have access to soap and water anytime while in the classroom, however, there are times when water is not available. When water is not available, the sanitizer will be used to kill germs. Of course, it is always good to have tissue readily available for runny noses.
