A Classroom Store: Rewarding Positive Behavior and Building Math Skills

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
One of the most exciting aspects of our classroom is our Classroom Store. Students earn rewards for displaying positive behaviors, meeting goals, and demonstrating effort. They can then convert their rewards into “funny money,” which they use to make purchases from the store.
This system not only reinforces positive behavior but also helps students develop critical life skills.
Through our classroom store, they learn to:
Save and budget their money.
Make spending decisions.
Practice real-world math skills, such as addition, subtraction, and counting.
To keep the store running, I’m requesting funding for items such as:
Small prizes, toys, and school supplies for the store inventory.
Organization materials like bins and labels to create a functional and inviting store.
Funny money or tokens for transactions.
With these materials, students will feel even more motivated to engage in positive behaviors and work toward their goals. The store becomes not just a tool for reinforcement but also a hands-on, practical way to practice math and decision-making.
