My Students

I teach a 5th grade class of 21st-century learners. Fifth grade is such a fun and challenging year, as these young people transition between the ages of child and tween.

"Reading is essential for those who seek to rise above the ordinary" - Jim Rohn.

I hope to give my students the gift of enjoying to read. Reading is one of my greatest treasures. Help me supply various genres for my students to enjoy. With a variety of genres, each student should be able to find something they love.

My Project

Our school has started using the Summit Learning platform. For our Language Arts portion, we have several book study units. These units are thorough and extensive.

What's better than a novel study?

I would like to have groups of four to five students reading the same book. Throughout the entire month, these books will be the major focus of our English Language Arts studies.

Students will be comparing and contrasting books of the same genre. They will be writing papers and looking for evidence from these books to support their ideas. Furthermore, they will be finding new vocabulary words to add to our word wall and share with the class.

I want to have a diverse selection of books for my students to choose from.
