My students need to develop literacy skills and map reading skills. They will benefit from these books and resources because they are related to the content I teach, but are at several different reading levels.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students at STEM Prep are from all different cultural backgrounds, but have a common love for STEM learning and for the area of South Nashville that many of them come from. They participate in a literacy based style of learning, and are given content in class that is both challenging and rigorous. Many students at STEM are not native English speakers, and most come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken, so including literacy and reading skills across all content is very important within their school.
My Project
After having taught at the middle school level, I have several books that are meant for that age group. However, I want to expand my library to have more upper level texts for the high school students I will be teaching next year. I have chosen a variety of texts about different areas of history, fiction and nonfiction, and even geography skills so that there can be something for every student. I will allow students to check these books out and when they return the books, I can refer them to similar books if they enjoyed them, or to different ones if they did not enjoy it. In the end, they will be reading outside of school which is ideal to develop their literacy skills.
