This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are in desperate need of a classroom library. We are a high school in Oakland, California that serves traditionally underserved and disadvantaged youth. A large percentage of our students are reading below grade level, with many students reading at an elementary school level.
The success of our Readers Workshop program hinges on students' ability to access engaging books at their reading level.
Without a classroom library, accessing books becomes too difficult of a task and creates a massive barrier to their literacy development and overall love for reading. Not only will your donation benefit my students, but all books will be available to every student at our school.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
