Help me give my students a classroom library set that shows them that brown and black boys and girls can be anything they want to be!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a preschool collaborative classroom, myself and my amazing co-teacher, Ms. Jones, work with general and special education students to push them to new academic and social-emotional milestones, while helping them develop self-esteem and the ability to persevere.
Preschool is a child's first taste of how amazing school can be.
In our classroom, we strive to create a community of learners with big minds and even bigger hearts that work as one to reach new levels of growth. As a school in a high-need area, we want to celebrate every student and for them to be proud of who they are and where they come from.
My Project
It's vitally important that students see themselves in the books that they read, and especially that they see characters that look like them accomplishing big things. Unfortunately, only 10% of children's books feature African American characters (University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Education Cooperative Children’s Book Center).
These books demonstrate the rich, diverse history of African Americans, and will show my students just how amazing their culture is!
As an educator who strives to be culturally relevant and to develop student's sense of pride and self-esteem, these books will go a long way to help along that journey. By adding these books to our classroom library, we're opening up our students to a world of possibilities and options as to who they can become and what they can do.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
