My Project

In a STEM classroom for kids ages 5 to 11, books can be just as important as building blocks and science tools. While hands-on projects are fun and exciting, students also need stories that show how to keep going when something gets hard, how to think outside the box, and how to turn mistakes into learning moments. A strong classroom library filled with books that encourage creative thinking, persistence, and problem-solving helps kids get more out of every STEM activity they do. Books like Not a Box and Not a Stick inspire students to see everyday objects in new ways, just like real inventors do.

Help me build a library of books to channel my students’ inborn creativity while cultivating perseverance and the belief that setbacks are okay.

Stories can help students build the confidence to try new things—even when they don’t know the outcome. When kids read about characters who struggle and succeed by thinking differently, they’re more likely to take risks in their own work. In Your Fantastic Elastic Brain, students learn how effort and learning actually grow their brains—an empowering idea for any young problem-solver. Books like Be a Maker show that creativity and care for others can go hand in hand, planting the seed for innovation with purpose.

Adding more of these books to the STEM library will give students more chances to grow as thinkers, inventors, and teammates. Even our youngest learners can start building habits like curiosity, patience, and creativity with the right stories to guide them. While STEM classrooms in the elementary grades benefit from investment in durable materials to complete exciting projects in circuitry, robotics, and coding, books that promote essential qualities like growth mindset and grit are just as crucial—and just as worthy of support.
