My Students

My students include 8th graders whose families have chosen to attend a charter school focusing on arts and personalized learning. They come from all around the southern areas of San Diego county.

I love knowing that I'm building the next generation of artists, performers, and thinkers.

I want to be able to provide them with the environment and resources that they need to grow and thrive.

There are so many students that can be truly engaged in their learning thanks to arts integration. Some of my students are wonderfully talented at fine arts, dance, or music, and some of them are just beginning to cultivate an interest. My goal is to help each of them reach their fullest potential by constantly integrating art into their learning.

My 8th-grade class is a self-contained classroom. I teach math, science, history, and English, but I am also the supervisor for our Board Games & RPG Club as well as Student Council.

My Project

Glide Apps allows users to create their own applications for various uses. I'm currently using the 'free edition' to help Gamify my classroom following Matera's XPLAP (Explore Like a Pirate) model of classroom gamification. The free version has several limitations which means that the App I'm designing will eventually require the Pro-Version. As always, if I cannot get this funded through DonorsChoose.org, I will just pay for it myself, out of pocket.

We will be using Glide to create an immersive-year long roleplay called "Roanoke", styled after a lost space station in which students complete challenges & earn rewards for while completing their regular assignments.

I believe this will increase engagement in a critical way during Distance Learning, and still be extremely helpful during live teaching when we get back to it. It will allow us to build a stronger classroom community and incentivize students to go above and beyond with their work.
