Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach a bright group of bilingual first graders in a low socioeconomic area in South Texas. Many of my students are English Language Learners who are developing their language and academic skills in both English and Spanish. Despite the challenges they may face outside of school, they come to class each day eager to learn, grow, and succeed.
Our classroom runs on a rotation model, which includes centers for literacy, math, writing, and technology.
During our technology center, students work on learning programs that reinforce important skills in reading, math, and language development. This independent work is essential for their growth and allows me to work with small groups at my teacher table.
Unfortunately, many of our headphones are broken, and it’s become difficult for students to focus with the noise from multiple devices playing at once. This noise also makes it harder for me to give my small groups the focused instruction they need.
We are asking for a class set of quality headphones so each student can have a quiet, distraction-free learning experience. These headphones will help them stay engaged during tech time and help keep our classroom calm and focused during rotations.
