Help me give my students books about high-interest historical figures and shelf space! The file cabinet will allow me to free up some of the bookshelves for our growing library.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Middle school is hard, and it's even harder if you are a few years behind in your reading after COVID kept you out of school during key elementary years! We know one of the best ways to become a stronger reader is to read more! That's why we do sustained-silent reading every day.
One of the biggest predictors of if a student will understand challenging texts is if they have any background knowledge on the subject.
These books are specifically selected to build that knowledge of historical figures. By getting a variety of the "Who was..." series, students can know what to expect from the format, which lowers their anxiety about starting a new book. These books are focused and not too thick. This year I've seen the few I already have be some of the most popular, and I've especially seen my English-Language Learners have huge success in their comprehension and retaining of information from this series!
With the growing library, we need a bit more shelf space. That's why I have also requested a file cabinet that can fit under my computer table, which should let me open up more shelf space currently used for supply storage. Finally, one of the current shelves, made of particle board, needs a repair - so the wood filler should help me repair that so it can last several more years.
