My Students
Imagine walking into a classroom with bare, white walls. Now imagine walking into one that was colorful and decorated. As a fairly new teacher, acquiring such decorations is expensive and the things other teachers give me are outdated. We need a room make over and these supplies will help.
My students are preteens who are still impressionable.
They live in a community that was hit by Hurricane Katrina and a school that has been hit badly by budget cuts. The students here are great. They work hard and we have minor discipline issues.
My Project
I frequently make posters as I teach and hang them on the wall to act as a constant reminder of the topic we are covering. I have had students remark as to how the posters have helped them, so I have come to realize that they read the walls quite frequently. My goal is to surround my students with as much 'writing on the walls' as possible. I wish to expose them to as much positivity as they can handle. I think that a positive attitude is conducive for learning and they are contagious. I like to think that upon entering my classroom, their spirits are lifted and they will carry that to others when they leave.
This project will impact children for years to come.
It embodies as much positive energy as I could find. The surroundings it will create and the learning it will provide will change lives. The bulletin board set, stickers, push pins, markers, math resource kit, and math games will provide a room that will support learning and inspire and engage my students. Math will no longer be someones least favorite subject.
