My Project
Brooke and Danae want to give back to their community, and through EAST they have the chance to do this. Our school is very rural, with over sixty percent of our students receiving free or reduced price lunches. Families often struggle to buy basic necessities so extra-curricular items are often not obtainable or to be considered at a later date.
Many of our students are unable to attend or participate in activities or events that require formal attire, such as homecoming, prom, or pageants.
EAST students, Brooke and Danae, wanted to help, so they went by formalwear stores, thrift stores, and consignment stores and looked for gently used formal wear to start their closet. Many in our community donated gently used clothing as well. They approached the superintendent about finding a place to house the attire, and were given a small closet off the side of a former stage to renovate. They asked for and received, donations to paint, renovate, and rejuvenate the room, covered with fifty years of "writings" and grime. They wrote and received grant money to buy racks, crown molding, and shelving. The room is almost complete and ready to open.
However, the space itself is small and the pair are finding there is no room to actually try on the clothing. They are looking for alternative ways to design dressing rooms. These screens will enable portable dressing rooms that can be quickly set up on the stage to accommodate fittings. The over the door hangers will allow clients to have more than one outfit to try on at a time.
