Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Working on 21st Century skills in language arts and math is difficult when there are few working computers in the classroom. I want to bring more of the outside world to my students. This is part two of our computer center project.
My students come into school every day eager to learn.
We are one of four kindergarten classrooms in a Title I school with close to 600 students. I currently have 23 students. In the past three weeks, three students have joined my classroom. The majority of my students are English Language Learners who need additional materials to support learning new vocabulary and skills simultaneously. Many people have said that our school is a hidden treasure and for that reason it can be difficult to locate. Because we are tucked into a neighborhood, we do not receive as much community support to fund classroom needs as we need. Many of our teachers purchase items independently or seek funding for materials.
My Project
Your donation will be used to purchase a Chromebook for my 23 Kindergarten students. The notebook will give my students access to different websites such as the school's subscriptions to Raz-Kids, BrainPop, and other district-purchased digital resources like PebbleGo. Raz-Kids works on different reading skills, BrainPop delivers short and fun video clips on various science and social studies topics. PebbleGo covers various science and social studies topics in short colorful e-books that can read to the student as well as short video clips. The students will review previously taught skills in math games and on interactive flipcharts. All of these learning opportunities offer interactive features to encourage and support the students' growth. For my English Language Learners, the availability of these interactive features will support their goals.
Your donation gives my students another opportunity to learn from digital resources as an alternative mode of learning.
Thank you for considering my project as you decide which project to support.
