My Students
This year's crop of kids is a particularly hardworking group. They work well together and push each other to be better and better students. Their two favorite things in class are practicing their math fluency skills using an online program and reading, reading, reading whenever they get the chance.
The kiddos under my watch are the most hardworking group I have ever had the privilege of teaching.
We come together every morning in our large, urban elementary school to get ready for fourth grade and beyond. My students come from almost ten different countries and speak six different home languages. Some students are in and out of the class receiving special education services. With all of this diversity and movement, it is still a strong, connected group of kids.
My Project
I am looking forward to adding another Chromebook to our classroom as one of our old ones is on its last legs. Students use the Chromebooks daily to access two different math fact fluency tools online. In addition, the Chromebook will prove invaluable later in the year when students try their hand at online research.
In addition to the Chromebook, I am request some paperback titles to use in book groups. Participating in these book groups gives the students a chance to take ownership over their reading and learning as they practice coming up with questions and then looking carefully at the text to find the answers themselves from the words on the page (not from the almighty teacher).
These resources will make a huge difference in my class.
With more titles available for book groups, more students will be able to participate in this wonderful literacy activity. By adding just one more Chromebook to class, at least three more students a day will have a chance to practice their math facts online.
