I cannot tell you the joy I receive when a child can experience something in our classroom that may not otherwise happen to them. I teach fourth grade in a school where most of the children will never experience anything but what goes on in the classroom. Our school is classified as a predominantly low-income school, but by no means should that mean that a child receive less experiences because of their economic situations.
Part of our science curriculum involves studying life organisms which includes habitats and the classification of animals. I would like for my children to have the opportunity to experience the process of eggs being incubated and hatched. With the use of an incubator and a brooder, the children will be able to experience an animal evolving from the egg to a chicken. Within 21 days, the children will have seen the development of an embryo to a chicken, with the end result of what habitat a chicken needs to survive.
I believe this experience would be one that my children would not soon forget and may even inspire future biologists. Thank you for your consideration.
