This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Sneezing, coughing, chalk dust? Really? Humanity has hit the year 2012 and Room 18 is still bumbling around with a crumbling chalk board. The time is now for a white board!

My students are wonderful, motivated learners living the day to day life in a lower social, economical urban area of California.

They all receive free lunches with breakfast in the morning. Our class is entirely Hispanic and a good representation of the whole school. The school we learn at is dedicated to student learning and strives to look to all the positives taking place. We love to recognize success with our "Caught You Being Good" incentive program.

My Project

In many ways the hub of student learning is the board. I'll get to the point: I hate using our current chalk board and so do my students. The dust it creates is a nuisance in so many ways. I believe my best teaching and the greatest student learning takes place during first instruction of the RTI model. Being able to present and chart (either my modeling or the students' work) needs prime real estate which is in the front of the class. This board will highlight all the best work in our room.

Any respectable business would not even consider a presentation using the dilapidated equipment we have in our room.

And neither would you. Please help us out with this absolutely necessary item to any classroom. A simple white board. It shocks me that I even need to ask for this as it should be an obvious given. Thank you so much for your time!
