This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Reading maketh a full man." My scholars take this to heart as they are are dedicated, motivated, and thirst for knowledge.
My scholars strive to be empowered through knowledge and the first stop on this journey is the school library.
Our school community is located in the Lower East Side of New York City and approximately 60% of our students currently live in homeless shelters or transitional housing. The library seeks to play an integral role in building our future leaders.
My Project
As an elementary school library, my scholars are immersed in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) activities in order to prepare them for this 21st century society and economy. As such, we are engaged in numerous hands on activities. Chart paper is used in my class on a regular basis due to their not being a white board as most of the wall space contains shelving to house the library's print collection. In addition, a lot of materials are used in the STEAM curriculum and easy access to and storage of these materials is essential.
The storage cart with an easel will serve a dual purpose that will facilitate both teaching and learning as well as STEAM activities.
My scholars will be able to easily use the easel, I will able to store and retrieve previously made charts as well as display new ones. In addition, class activities and learning will be much smoother as the attached storage bins allows for getting and replacing materials quickly and easily. This storage cart with easel will be an invaluable asset to my classroom and the education of our future generation.
