My Students

Do you remember sitting on the carpet during circle time? The carpet is the place where all learning takes place in Kindergarten. It is the place where we begin and end each lesson.

I teach twenty-four students eager Kindergarten students.

For some, it is their first classroom experience. I teach at a small community based school. My students come from many different cultural backgrounds. Some of my students come from low income families who qualify for free or reduced price lunch.

My Project

The new "A Place for Everyone Classroom Carpet" will help create a cooperative learning environment and will make circle time more inviting for the students. They will feel comfortable while listening to stories as well as the many other activities that students do in kindergarten. They are at an age where story time is one of the most meaningful and exciting times of the day. So many concepts can be introduced through a story while sitting on the carpet. With lots of big, bold squares in five vibrant colors, these giant-sized carpets provide plenty of seating options for the whole class!

The extra-roomy squares give each child lots of space to sit and play.

The color-coded rows make it easy to divide the class into small groups. Small cooperative groups encourage students to work with others through sharing ideas. The small groups also help with differentiating instruction. When children are grouped by ability level, it is easier to help struggling students while challenging the advanced students.
