it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are amazing individuals with unique learning styles, strengths, and challenges. They are enrolled in a self-contained special education classroom and face a range of sensory, emotional, and behavioral needs. Many of them benefit from opportunities to regulate their bodies and emotions before returning to academic or social tasks.
Our classroom could greatly benefit from a dedicated Sensory/Motor Room — a space where students can safely reset, regulate, and refocus when they are feeling overwhelmed or overstimulated.
This room would not only support their sensory integration needs but also provide a calming environment to practice adaptive behavior and develop essential social-emotional skills.
For students with autism, ADHD, sensory processing disorder, or behavioral challenges, having a safe, structured environment to decompress is not a luxury — it’s a necessity. By creating this space, we can prevent meltdowns, reduce stress, and promote independence, focus, and readiness to learn.
More importantly, this room will empower students to learn self-regulation strategies, practice social interactions, and work on adaptive behavior skills in a calm and supportive setting.
